Imagine a place where everyday objects come alive, such as a paper weight turned into a sea urchin or a water toy turned into a microphone. A place where silly faces and “acting out” are encouraged. Where tutus aren’t just for dress up and not being able to read music becomes a thing of the past. Ladies and Gents, I introduce to you…TALENT TOWN!

TALENT TOWN is a performing arts program where kids ages 3-18 can explore and develop their creative gifts and it is such a fun place! On the specific day that I attended I was able to sit in on a theatre class. The fun and laughter that all the kids were sharing had me wanting to jump in and join the fun as they acted out specific characters, read short scripts together, made silly faces and used their imagination non-stop for the full class.

I sat down with owner and founder, Jen and she shared her childhood with me which lead her to open such a fun place for kids right here in Sanford!

Growing up in a home with a mother who was as adventurous as she was kind, Jen spent a portion of her childhood outside of the U.S. living in Colombia as her mother served as a missionary and always felt the need to lovingly push Jen and her siblings into all sorts of classes for the arts such as acting, drawing, music, dancing, you name it and they were in it and actually LOVED it, especially Jen.

And as she grew up her love for the arts only grew with her. As an adult Jen volunteered with her churches choir group and even decided to dive in deeper and wrote musical dramas, the church quickly noticed her talents and asked her to be the drama director where she taught and led for nearly 5 years and she says she loved every moment of it.

It wasn’t until she stopped teaching that she realized just how much she loved it and quickly began to miss it. And as with all great things that start as an idea, they quickly grow into a dream, that then and only then…with hard work and dedication become reachable and before you know it that very dream is a reality. And that is exactly what happened for Jennifer even though she stated “it didn’t seem obtainable”.

Jen, not only is your business now a reality it’s very well loved, I can see it on the faces of every single child that attended your class and the parents that watched their kids from the adjacent room. This is a place where kids can openly be themselves and learn new and exciting things. Jen has created this business to not only share her love for the arts but is doing it in such a way that it’s accessible for all kids. Jen wanted a place for all kids in Sanford to have the opportunity to see just how fun and beneficial arts can be.
