For every girl still looking for a perfect Valentine’s Day gift, there is hope: Sanford’s newest business venture is opening this weekend! Bon Bon Studios is a unique photography studio specializing in Boudoir, Burlesque and Pin Up Photography. You might want to surprise your better half with a unique, fun and beautiful picture, book or calendar of you… The photo studio is located at the corner of First Street and Oak Avenue in Historic Downtown Sanford (right behind Quiznos Subs).
Sanford365 had the honor to preview the studio and sets last weekend and to witness a full photo shoot. More about the photo shoot and the grand opening party, including a video, will follow next week but I wanted to give everyone a taste of what Bon Bon Studios will be all about and share some pictures with you. Please note: these are pictures I took during the shoot. Obviously, the pictures produced by Bon Bon Studios will be much better 🙂
Bon Bon Studios currently consists of 6 beautiful and very creative sets that provide the perfect environment for provocative yet tasteful boudoir and pin-up photography.
My favorite set is the “retro kitchen” with an original retro style refrigerator (transported all the way down from Jacksonville) and a stove. Peggy and Sara Nixon, the mother-daughter team that founded Bon Bon Studios in late Fall of 2009, have put lots of love and details into their sets. Another favorite of mine is a country style set with fence, hay and green grass, perfect to shoot for example cute picnic scenes. Then there is also a garage style set with a real motorcycle and a bedroom set .
As Sara explains, each of these sets will appeal in different ways to women, just as every woman has her individual style and character. There is lots to explore and as the shoot goes on, often new ideas are born.
To Sara, who is the photographer and also takes a large part in all image editing, it is important to keep the individuality of each woman alive in her pictures. “When a photo is taken”, she explains, “a lot of the individual qualities and features that we love so much in a person get lost. My job is it to bring back these beautiful qualities in our pictures.” And from what I have seen she accomplishes that very well.
Bon Bon Studios also provides make-up (including fake lashes) and clothing for their customers. After a photo session a lot of work goes into professional image editing. Clients can afterwards view the best pictures in a secure and password protected online gallery and then order prints, books, calendars and other custom photo products.
Girls, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised! Curious to see some samples and learn more about Bon Bon Studios in Sanford? Check out their web site at www.BonBonStudios.com

When my sister first told me about the new Boudoir Photographic Studio in Sanford, I really did not know what to expect. Of course I have been in other Photo Studios before, and all have taken really nice family pictures. I can not imagine myself acting “sexy but innocent” in front of anybody I do not know. Anyway, my sister reminded me of my New Year’s pledge for 2010: to have the heart to try something new every month! No sooner said than done. I checked the BonBon website to get an idea of the different sets they have and grabbed some appropriate clothes I feel comfortable with.
When I entered BonBon Studios, a sweet scent expected me in the cozy entrance area. Sara and Peggy gave me a warm welcome and showed me around. I decided to start the shooting in the garden set, so I put on my jeans and shirt and Sara did my make-up (for the first time in my life I tried fake eyelashes, and I loved it!) while explaining to me every step of what she was doing. On the set, Peggy demonstrated different positions and explained me, that sometimes a position may be quite uncomfortable but looks great on the picture. I posed upon the directions and encouragement of Peggy and Sara, and after seeing the first pictures on the computer between the position changes I felt very confident with myself. Together we tried out new positions – sexy but innocent. For the second setting I changed my clothes for a short 50ties dress and put on a wig out of the BonBon wig collection (another new thing on my list). We continued the shooting with a lot of fun and laughter – it is incredible how sexy an abnormal bending on the stove -while putting on suspenders- looks on a picture! Crazy!
This day I found out a totally new side of myself and I’m so glad I did it. Now I know, when the day comes I feel unsexy, I will grab one of the shooting pictures and will remember the feeling I had this day. And on Valentines Day my boyfriend will see the best pictures in a Calendar – I can’t wait to see his face…
