Yes, it’s that time of the year again, when the days get shorter and, at least in areas other than the “deep South” of the US, it’s time for that sweater and jacket again. And that also means, tons of orange items in supermarkets, it’s Halloween!

So what is there to do in Central Florida? I want to name the obvious right away: Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Shamoo’s Halloween Spooktacular (at Seaworld) are the first major events that come to mind. But there is more to do, also for the smaller budget!

Take the Zoo Boo Bash at the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford for example. It’s not too scary and a fund event for adults and children. Everyone is invited to show up in their costume and there will also be trick or treat stations. For more info, please call 407-323-4450.

Then, an event I have been wanting to go since last year, Fear in the Forest in Altamonte Springs. You will essentially walk through a haunted forest where ghosts, and other scary creatures await you, and from what I understand there will also be a haunted house this year. They are located at 1360 SR 436, 1/4 mile West of 17-92 in Altamonte Springs, FL 32701. For more info email fearintheforest@yahoo.com

Also in Altamonte Springs but much more kid friendly is Halloween at Cranes Roost. Here is info that I found online:

Halloween at Cranes Roost is a community oriented door to door trick-or-treat alternative for kids, sponsored by the City of Altamonte Springs.  The 13th Annual Halloween event features local business sponsoring booths to hand out candy and trinkets to an estimated 15,000 kids.  There are costume contests for all ages, inflatable games and live entertainment.
Trick or Treat begins at 5pm around Cranes Roost Lake
Entertainment begins at 5pm in the Amphitheater
Costume Contests begin at 6pm in the Amphitheater

Another event in Seminole County is Lake Mary’s Ghostwalk and Candlelight Tales. The Lake Mary Museum at 158 N. Country Club Road organizes these great events. For both events reservations are required. During the Ghostwalk you will walk through Lake Mary on and meet some of this city’s scary ghosts. This 45 minutes guided tour will leave from the museum every 10 minutes starting at 6:30 PM on both October 11th and 18th.
Even more scary are the Candlelight Tales (on October 10th and 17th) taking you back to the 19th century. Lake Mary’s very own storyteller Joe Rosier will act as country doctor sharing frightening stories about the past in Florida. This event is held at the museum as well. Adults are only $5, children $1. For more information call 407-324-3011.

On October 31st, the City of Sanford invites children 12 & under to Spooky Hollow from 6 – 8:30 pm at First Street & Magnolia Square. Trick or treat,  games, music, tons of candy, surprises and a costume contest will make everyone happy at this free event! For more information call 407-688-5120.

The next event worth mentioning and one for nightlife fans is Wall Street’s Plazaween in Downtown Orlando. Party lasts from 9pm-2am and tickets are $10. Of course, you have to be 21 or older to attend. This is their 8th event and I have been to some. It’s fun and definitely a great place to meet up for a fun night, even if it’s just to take a look of some innovative costume ideas. And this year, October 31st is a Friday, so it will be even better!!

A lot more cultural is an event that will be held on October 17th from 7:30pm-9:30pm at Harry P. Leu Gardens in Winter Park: Ghost Stories will frighten you in a dark garden. For $9 ($6 for children), Central Florida Storytellers will entertain you and get you just in the right mood for Halloween. I recommend you bring a blanket and if possible chairs to this fun outdoor event.

Last but not least, my favorite event of the Halloween season, Costumes For A Cause, this year to be held at Ceviche in Downtown Orlando on October 25th. It’s a fun event and benefits a great cause. I will be there and can promise you it’s a Halloween party you won’t forget! Organized by Guys with Ties, a group of young men that got together to organize events for a good cause, a ticket to this event will cost you $25. Drinks are free for “early birds” until 10pm. We went last year (see picture above!) and had a great time, so we’ll be back this year again. For more information visit their site: http://www.guyswithties.org/orlando/events

I will try to make all of these events, not that I am a huge Halloween Fan but where I am from, we don’t have Halloween, so it’s always kind of exciting for me to experience it here in the USA! And remember to keep your porch lights on if you want the little ones to stop by for trick or treating!!

Fear in the Forest is actually known as A Petrified Forest this year. Our actual address is 1306 SR 436, 1/4 mile West of 17-92 in Altamonte Springs, FL 32701. We are bigger and better than last year so come check us out. We will also have a children’s day on October 24th.
