Sun Rail Train Brochure
Today was one of the rainiest days ever, so I couldn’t get myself to take my camera out with me. Besides, on a day like this, there isn’t really anything nice outside anyway… I’m glad we don’t really have days like this a lot!
So today I decided to just take a picture of something on my desk. The first thing that stood out was this Sun Rail brochure that I was handed at a recent presentation I attended. Kelly Teague came to speak to us about this exciting project and what it will mean for the area.
I need to apologize for the bad shot, I took it with my phone (bad habit, I need to stop doing this…).
As another Orlando Blogger has already mentioned in his blog (more here), I wanted to also take the opportunity and spread the good news, in case you haven’t heard: the Orlando area will soon have a real public transportation system!

The Sun Rail train is expected to start service in 2011 and will be Central Florida’s first commuter rail line (a total of 61.5 miles!). This train system is actually capable of carrying the equivalent of one lane of traffic off I-4! Can you imagine what this will do for the traffic in the area? I know I will be taking the train when I go from Sanford to the parks (which I don’t do often, but who knows, maybe more often once the train is here) and I think if there will be some type of Night train we might be able to go downtown on a Saturday night without having to elect a DD. The train will connect the following cities and points of interest:
- DeLand (Phase 2)
- DeBary
- Sanford
- Lake Mary
- Longwood (they are also going to have a beautiful train station with shops and restaurants!)
- Altamonte Springs
- Maitland
- Winter Park
- Florida Hospital
- Lynx Central Station
- Church Street
- Orlando Health
- Sand Lake Road
- Meadow Woods (Phase 2)
- Osceola Parkway (Phase 2)
- Kissimmee (Phase 2)
- Poinciana (Phase 2)
Obviously this train won’t be a cheap project but the rewards are worth it. The train will not only improve the traffic situation but also bring a lot of economic growth to the area, not only during but of course also after the construction. I am pretty excited about this and super happy that Sanford is part of Phase 1 – that means we will get to enjoy the train first đŸ™‚
I really, really hope this helps bring not only convenience but more of a “big city feel” to the Central Florida area. We need both.
