Applebees Lake Mary FL

Since I grab lunch here every once in a while I didn’t want to leave an old classic unmentioned: Applebee’s. This location is right on the Park Place at Heathrow Plaza in Lake Mary. What I like about Applebee’s is that I always get what I expect. It’s also a great spot for casual meetings and of course to quickly pick up food and bring it back to the office ;o)

Caddies Pub Heathrow FL

Caddies Pub is open! I am definitely planning on stopping by soon (especially since I walk by several times every day) so I can write a bit more about what this new pub offers.

Silvestros Opening in Heathrow FL

The location that was formerly the restaurant/bar Wine Down (before that Urban Flats) at Park Place at Heathrow will soon be home to a new Italian restaurant, Silvestros. Silvestros actually has its original location in Cocoa Beach, FL and they are now opening their new location here in the Sanford/Lake Mary area. I am excited to see yet another restaurant open so close to my office – also gives us some more lunch options )

The official opening date of Silvestro’s has still not been released but for the curious ones, here is a link to their web site so you can find out what they’re all about.

It seems like this will be an elegant and quite upscale Italian restaurant. Clearly, the place will be some good competition for Terra Mia (also located at Park Place at Heathrow) and I can’t wait to try their food.

Caddy's Pub Heathrow Lake Mary FL

On Day 239 I had already reported about the upcoming opening of Caddy’s Pub at Park Place at Heathrow in Lake Mary. Now, there is finally a sign on the building and I sneaked in today to ask the manager about the final opening date. He said it was still not a sure date but it was going to be either on August 17th or August 24th. When I looked it up on my agenda afterwards I realized that these days are both Mondays and was wondering if that could be right. Monday doesn’t seem to be the most appealing day to open a bar/restaurant but on the other hand, it makes you unique

So I can’t wait for it to open, there will finally be life in front of my office window again – and I can go for a refreshing drink after work and won’t even have to drive (it is literally 3 steps from my office…)

08/25/09 Update: Guess I was right about the opening dates. Monday, August 24th passed and Caddies Pub is not open yet… Could it be that they meant September 24th? Well, who knows. Whenever they are open I will be sure to post it here. Feel free to share info about the “mysterious” opening below ;o)

08/31/09 Update: A friend of mine stopped by to apply for a job at Caddies Pub and told me that it will open on September 8. Let’s see

Cascata Salon and Spa Heathrow

So it has been over 6 months since my last hair cut… time for me to go again. Since I still had something left on a gift card Jose had given me for Valentine’s Day 2 years ago I chose Cascata for my hair cut (this is the 2nd time I am going here for a hair cut). Now I have to say I am not someone who goes to the hair dresser a lot (or to manicure or pedicure, in fact, that I have never done that!). I am quite unconcerned with the looks of my hair or nails as long as they look clean and taken care of. Despite all that though I have to say that I was very pleased with the great service and wonderful job Cascata has delivered – for the second time. My hair looked great and I walked out feeling a lot lighter

For any girl that enjoys manicures/pedicures, hair cuts/styling and day spas, Cascata is a great place! The atmosphere is very relaxing, the service great and they really make you feel special. I have gotten a massage here too (which was the initial purpose of the gift card I got) and I think it was a great experience, however I found out too that I am not the massage enjoying type of girl. Nevertheless, I highly recommend Cascata for a luxury treatment.

[Quick personal note: In all honesty I have to say that I will return to Hair Cuttery for my next cut (in 6 months - yes, I really only go a maximum of 2 times per year) but that is a personal choice because of my lack of interest in hair, nails or anything related to that. So instead of spending $50 at Cascata I am spending $15 at Hair Cuttery for savings of $70/year - not a whole lot but at least something.]

The Little Gym in Lake Mary

The Little Gym is located on the Park Place at Heathrow Plaza. I personally have never been inside, most likely because this gym is specifically for kids and I do not have kids yet. However, judging t by the concept, I think it is a really neat idea and great activity for the little ones.

Caddys Pub Heathrow Opening Soon

Update: As it seems the opening date has been postponed for a bit. I will keep you posted here. The opening may not even take place until July…Stay tuned!

More good news for the Lake Mary/Heathrow area: Caddys Pub at Park Place at Heathrow is scheduled to open on Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 (just a couple of days after the scheduled opening of Carlos’n Charlies across the street at Colonial Town Park).

Caddys Pub will be an upscale sports bar – as many say, just what this area needed! I am glad to see this new bar opening – not only because it will only be about 20 feet from my office (Watson Realty). It was quite a shock to see Spice Steakhouse go after a relatively short period of time. Before that, the location was known as Harvey’s Bistro, a great upscale restaurant.

The place next to this new sports bar is still up for lease (formerly a pizza place, then Urban Flats, then Wine Down) and will hopefully soon be the location of yet another night life spot in the area.

So we actually went inside the new Caddys Pub that is still undergoing its major face lift and talked to Randy Dunn of Coast to Coast Painting Inc. Randy is in charge of the remodeling (from Spice to Caddys Pub) and from what I can see he is doing a fantastic job. The place already looks quite different. Fishbones in Lake Mary FL

I love seafood and sushi! One of my favorite seafood restaurants is FishBones in Lake Mary, FL, located at Park Place at Heathrow (across from Colonial Town Park). The only reason I don’t go here on a weekly basis is their price range. Whenever I feel like exquisite seafood dining though I choose Fishbones.

If you like trout you should definitely try theirs – the way it is prepared was to die for… Also one of my favorites is the Seafood Trio with my favorite side of creamed Spinach. Fishbones definitely has something for every seafood lover! And in case you’re not so much into seafood or sushi, Prime Rib and Filet Mignon are also on the menu. Click here to check it out!

Fishbones belongs to the Talk of Town Restaurant Group who also among others own Charley’s Steak House, Vito’s Chophouse and Moonfish.

What makes the Lake Mary location so special is the beautiful huge covered patio with a spectacular bar! It is a must see! And if Fishbones is also a bit out of your price range, stop by just for drinks and enjoy that spectacular patio with live music on most weekends – you won’t be disappointed!

Shan Asian Restaurant

Shan Asian Cuisine and Bar is a great restaurant at Park Place at Heathrow, right across from Colonial Towne Park. With daily Happy Hours from 4pm-7pm it’s a fun place to meet up for drinks after work. There is also live music on everal nights during the week. Sitting outside on their patio for dinner with friends is perfect around this time of the year.

Shan offers lunch specials around $8-$10. We have tried their Sushi and Beef Sezchuan and were very pleased.

The atmosphere inside is elegant but maybe a bit dark for my taste – I think that’s why I prefer it at night time. Shan also offers a separate spacious dining room inside, perfect for meetings.

So if you are in the area and feel like good Asian cuisine in an elegant ambient give Shan a try, I think you will like it

Park Place at Heathrow

Here’s a view at Park Place at Heathrow in Lake Mary, FL, “the other side of H.E. Thomas Boulevard” facing the Colonial Town Park side.

Many of you will know this side because of Fishbones, my favorite seafood restaurant in the area. Unfortunately they raised their prices but they are still excellent and worth it, just not as often as I would like to.

Here’s a list of all current restaurants/eateries and bars at Park Place at Heathrow:

• Fishbones (As mentioned, best $eafood! You must see the patio! Wonderful and perfect for a nice Florida evening)
• Terra Mia
• Moe’s Southwest Grill
• Cigar Bar (Ladies Night on Thursdays, seems to be the the favorite day for Ladies Nights because Dexter’s and Liam Fitzgerald at Colonial Town Park have those, too)
• [The New European Dessert Place] (Just opened; will find out more soon and post!)
• Applebees (watch out for their Karaoke Nights)
• Shan Japanese Restaurant

I hope some more restaurants/bars fill the 2 empty spaces where Spice (yes, Spice of Winter Park and Lake Eola had a location here in Lake Mary) (formerly Harvey’s Bistro) and Wine Down (formerly Urban Flats, also has a location in Winter Park) used to be. It’s a great location here and it’s often overlooked by Colonial Town Park at the other side of H.E. Thomas Blvd., I think mainly because there are just more restaurants, bars and the movie theatre there and it keeps the small town fleir better than the rather regular looking plaza of Parkplace at Heathrow. Having said that, I want to point out though that Park Place at Heathrow offers entertainment, food and drinks that are just as good as their neighbors’ at Colonial Town Park. Therefore, our next night out in Lake Mary will be here. I think I’ll start with some light appetizers at Fishbones, a delicious dinner with fine Italian wine at Terra Mia, then have a small (yeah right!) dessert at the new dessert place before we end the night with some signature martinis (and a cigar for the boys) at the Cigar Bar
